Geraldine Yaris (IDEA Grad 2023) wins Top 10 in CAPIC Rodeo 15 Student Illustration Contest with 'Death Tarot'

Congratulations to Geraldine Yaris (IDEA Grad 2023) for winning the Top 10 in the CAPIC Rodeo 15 student contest for Illustration with “Death Tarot” (shown above).

Many congratulations to Capilano University's IDEA School of Design students who continue to dominate the CAPIC student awards in illustration!

Check out this award-winning student illustration project!

The origin of these illustrations were for the third year music festival poster project. The composition of the illustrations were, of course, based on the Death and Lovers Tarot while the figures very loosely took likeness from the artists Bones UK and Woodkid. Some key elements that I tend to include in my style when conceptualizing are detailed foliage and a focus on hands. During my process, I also find the line work the most enjoyable part and I think it shows! When the class ended, I found that they could simply stand alone as my own illustrative interpretations of Tarot cards and I decided to cut down on the text so they could remain timeless.
