For this poster we were given the prompt “past and future”. While thumbnailing and brainstorming concepts, I quickly fell in love with the idea of depicting the evolutionary connection between dinosaurs and modern day birds. I ended up with two different compositions of this concept. My critique group and I chose the chick casting a shadow of a dinosaur as this more clearly communicated the message. I also focused on the sense of scale to communicate that the small everyday chick has an extraordinary lineage, bringing a sense of wonder to a common sight in our modern world.

For execution, I enjoyed using a well rendered style with a warm colour palette. Researching chicken and dinosaur anatomy online helped alot, and I used my favourite brushes created for grass and foliage.
