“Skull Sketch” by Chelsea W. as part of her application to IDEA School of Design at Capilano University

This sketch was done with the F, 2H, and HB pencils. sketched from multiple references and research behind the anatomy of skull shapes.

“Luna” by Samantha Hall (IDEA Grad 2025) as part of her application to IDEA School of Design at Capilano University

This is an acrylic piece that is a part of a painting series I created. The idea of the series was to take my love of galaxies and space and merge them with my admiration for our BC wildlife.

“Seer” by Jordan Richert (IDEA Grad 2025) as part of his application to IDEA School of Design at Capilano University

“Ghosts Sketch” by Christopher R. (IDEA Grad 2025) as part of his application to IDEA School of Design at Capilano University

A digital sketch of some ghosts living in the city. Why are they looking at me like that?

“Skeleton still life” by Emily McAlpine (IDEA Grad 2025) as part of her application to IDEA School of Design at Capilano University

To create this piece I used a variety of graphite pencils and a gum eraser.

I chose to do these items because I feel as if it shows a large contrast between the different textures of each surface. I created each surface using different mark-making tactics.

“The Witch’s Balanced Breakfast” (Gouache) by Lily Rosen (IDEA Grad 2025) as part of her colour theory assignment

Colour theory doesn’t have to be boring! In order to explore six colour harmonies, I designed a simple, spooky composition for Halloween that would work in many different colours. The harmonies are as follows; monochrome, analogous, complementary, split-complementary, triadic, and tetradic. I imagine this is a young witch “playing with her food,” magically making her brew jump from the cauldron.

“Halloween: The Video Game” by Sophia Spanos McGill (IDEA Grad 2025)

Enter Halloween, the video game. First step? Choose your character! Who will it be? The wily witch who kidnaps cats to give them cuddles? The grumpy ghost who will trash your house if he floats on the wrong side of the bed? Or the worried werewolf, who has an assignment due at 11:59, but who can’t type with his claws?

Inspired by my yearly Halloween costume struggle, where I can never decide what I want to dress up as on time.
