Shown above: Face of Technology — Acrylic on canvas by Natasha Lee (IDEA Grad 2024) as part of her application to IDEA School of Design.

One of my most powerful pieces, “The Face of Technology”, features my observations on the role technology has taken on in society. This piece depicts a Chinese queen inspired by the ultra-realistic robots that have been developed in Asia. The robotic queen represents a power that rules over all of humankind through her outreach and popularity with many. Technology has now become so well integrated into our daily lives, it feels natural, almost human-like. While her face appears human, underneath it shows the crude and unnatural metal skeleton of her being, a visual reminder of what truly makes up technology.

‘Lunch on the Bus’ Gel pens and Copic markers on paper by Natasha Lee (IDEA Grad 2024) as part of her application to IDEA School of Design

A quick and fun sketch of my lunch assortment. This sketch was created on my bus ride to the Grand Canyon. As the commuting time was very long, I contented myself by drawing the contents of lunch sets we were provided.

As I did not want to disturb other passengers on the enclosed bus with fumes from my alcohol-based markers, I took reference photos of the food products and added the colouring after I returned from the trip.
