“Light Fury” illustration by Cassandra VP (IDEA Grad 2025) from student application to IDEA

If I'm being honest, I was running out of things to draw. In this case, I grabbed the closest object and began drawing it. This is my stuffed Light fury ( from How to train your dragon) from Build a Bear. I began working at Build a Bear in November of 2020 and instantly fell in love with the job.

Graduates are superbly trained, highly employable designers and illustrators, ready to begin successful and exciting careers in the creative industry.

“Beneath” by Rayna Lai (IDEA Grad 2025) from student application to IDEA

A 11x14 charcoal and graphite drawing of my sister, exploring foreshortening. The idea was to illustrate the idiom “to put someone on a pedestal”.

The purpose of your portfolio is to demonstrate your creative potential. We assess portfolios on drawing skill, design and creativity.

“Late Night Study Session” by Jenna Weind (IDEA Grad 2025) from student application to IDEA

I drew these while I was taking a break during a nighttime study session. The subject was the abundance of snacks my group had accumulated and shared while collaborating. I find that after a long study session I need to take a break to relax before continuing. I just freehand whatever is on my desk or in front of me. It is so freeing to not worry about the outcome of the drawing but to just have fun with it and see it come together.
