Mood Music Festival is a fictional three-day music festival that aims to convey a different mood each day; targeting Millennials, Gen Z’s and other individuals who have a wide variety of emotions in their playlists. These illustrations were created to be used as part of poster designs with the intention to promote the headlining artist and convey the mood of their music through the expression in the portraits, use of colour and pattern.

CAPIC (The Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators) holds an annual nationwide student contest in illustration and photography, titled Rodeo. This was the thirteenth year of the contest, but far from unlucky for Bachelor of Design students: First Place went to Megan Barry (IDEA Grad 2023), Second Place went to Janelle Momotani (IDEA Grad 2022), and Third Place went to Jamie Kusack (IDEA Grad 2023).

In addition, no fewer than seven IDEA students placed among the Top Ten: Alina Sandu (IDEA Grad 2022), Jason Low (IDEA Grad 2023), Janelle Momotani (as above), Joyce Chan (IDEA Grad 2023), Raha Namdari (IDEA Grad 2023), Alison Johnstone (IDEA Grad 2021), Aleksandar Jones (IDEA Grad 2023).

A clean sweep in the Illustration category!
