Sharleen Ramos (IDEA21) gains RGD Honourable Mention for Logo Design

Congratulations to Sharleen Ramos (IDEA Grad 2021) for gaining the RGD Honourable Mention for Logo Design for her “Wilder Tales Brewing” project. Shown above: Additional enamel camping mug collateral that fits with the brand. Instructor: Dominique Walker. Course: IDES 249, Brand Identity.

Wilder Tales Brewing

Wilder Tales is a fairy tale for adults and is an immersive experience that appeals to the target market. Wilder Tales is a craft brewery with a tasting room and foraging tours. It differentiates itself using foraged ingredients while promoting responsible and good living. The packaging tells a story using playful graphics, copy, and the edge of the label. The logo was crafted to follow the curves of a tail, and a tall handmade serif was used for a friendly, charming look to complement the varietal animal and tail/foraged flavor.

We asked Sharleen to tell us a bit about her process and tools used. Here’s what she said.

In preparing this logo and packaging, the most useful tools were my sketchbook (filled with everything useful like good/’bad’ ideas and layouts), grid paper and tracing paper. Sketching out in this form was quicker with the iteration and refining process versus doing the same on a screen.

Many congratulations to all our RGD Award winners and honourable mentions! This year, there were 973 submissions from 462 design students attending 34 post-secondary schools across Canada, so we did exceptionally well!
— Carol Aitken, Co-Coordinator of IDEA School of Design
This course introduces students to the field of brand identity by following the process of a branding assignment as it would typically be handled in a design studio or advertising agency. Students are guided through the process from creative brief through strategic framework to logo development and design of a variety of marketing materials. Presentations are conducted in a simulated “real world” environment.
