IDEA School of Design Grad 2026 shares their summer highlights as they enter 2nd year!

IDEA School of Design welcomes back the Class of 2026 now in their second year! We asked them to share their summer highlights.

I was hired for a freelance job this summer because of a project from first year that I shared to my Instagram in the spring! I designed the poster/visuals for the Still Moon Art Society’s Moon Festival. It’s a non profit community event that happens annually in East Van.
— Siobhan Barry
My summer highlight was moving to a new house, it was tiring and hot but decorating a new room was exciting!
— Jessica Baik
This summer I travelled to Paris and got to experience incredible artwork from hundreds of artists both painters and sculptors. I went to the Louvre and got to see the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci and artworks by Eugene Delacroix, Titian, Caravaggio, etc. Later at the the Musee d’Orsay I got to browse works from Van Gogh, Monet, and Paul Cezanne.
— Keira Schick
My summer highlight was the fireworks at Honda Celebration of Light.
— Alexis Chiang
While my summer was mostly busy with working and practicing traditional artistic endeavours I was lucky enough to travel to the Eastern side of BC to visit Rossland and Christina Lake. The break from the constant movement of Vancouver was very needed and I was able to relax for the week. Paddleboarding and sitting by the lake on Christina was certainly my specific highlight from the trip.
— Brendan Hurt
This summer, I had a remarkable week in Alaska with family, amazed by glaciers and wildlife. Back home, I showcased my art at local markets and enjoyed the serene lake, making great memories with family.
— Mena McGill
Watching Spiderman Across the Spiderverse in theatres and rewatching Grey’s Anatomy at 5AM. Also starting a new League of Legends themed DND campaign!
— Caroline Zhang
Went to Korea, visited family in Japan, and played volleyball in New York!
— Jerry Kambashi
My summer highlight was when my coworkers and I went to a bar for the first time for my birthday; it was a really fun experience and was definitely a night to remember.
— Neeka Yazdani
My 2023 summer highlight was taking road trips, making lots of time-lapses, and taking lots of pictures with my camera. I got to see the countryside, the Squamish area, and some remote parts of BC which was beautiful.
— MESH Devkota
I spent the past four months focusing on improving my digital art skills as well as growing my accounts on social media. Although I had to sacrifice time hanging out with friends, I think it was really worth it! I felt quite productive.
— Tricia Tang
I didn’t do too much but relaxing and hanging out with my friends was probably my favourite.
— Lola Garsonnin
My summer highlight was traveling to Ireland.
— Scarlett Side
My highlight this summer was travelling to Europe alone for the first time to meet a friend!!!
— Sophia Pan
My summer was filled with cosplay and anime conventions. I had a lot of fun making and wearing my cosplays. At one of the conventions, I was able to network and work as a graphic designer for a cosplay management company. I was hired to make cosplay guest announcement posts for Japan Expo (France) and Gamescon (Germany).
— Charlie Wongpisethkul
My summer highlight would be finally having the time to workout and go on hikes!
— Amanda Chau
My highlight was travelling back home, catching up on sleep, as well as enjoying Mom’s food!
— Anastasiya Kim
My summer highlight was going to Italy, Scotland, and England and going to the art museums and seeing some of the art we learned about last year. I was able to use the information I learned in class in conversations with my Mom and others in the museum.
