Congratulations to Maren Brophy, Amanda Chau, Jerry Kambashi and Tricia Tang (IDEA BDES Grad 2026) for winning CityStudio North Vancouver’s Hubbub #8 Audience Choice Prize for “Zine Project.”

Check out this award-winning group design project!

We were tasked to research and design zines to promote/advocate for different causes that are local to North Vancouver. I chose transportation, and the benefits of walking, biking and taking public transportation. I decided to design the zines with a clean, minimal and bold Japanese aesthetic in mind to serve as a reminder that low-impact alternatives of transportation exist, as it is already a largely talked-about topic.

About DSGN 122 Creative Thinking for Designers

This course focuses on idea generation and big picture thinking, and the themes of “design for good” and “sustainable design”. Students work collaboratively with other areas of the University and/or the community to solve problems using creative thinking techniques. Ways in which audiences interact with information are identified and related to visual communication problem solving.

What is CityStudio?

CityStudio North Vancouver is an experimentation and innovation hub where Capilano University students collaborate with City of North Vancouver staff and partners to co-create projects that make the city more vibrant, sustainable and healthy.  We are a member of the CityStudio Network, a global movement of cities working with post-secondary institutions for civic benefit. Through the co-creation of experimental projects, students gain employable skills and city staff receive support to advance strategic priorities in the community.
