Ben Frey showcases new illustrations in a solo print show; opening reception on Thursday, November 30th in East Vancouver

IDEA School of Design Illustration Instructor and Practicum Supervisor Ben Frey will be showcasing new illustrations in a solo print show at Slice of Life Gallery at the end of November. The collection of limited edition screen printed work taps into themes ranging from overindulgence, and living the “Life Pastoral”. Ben’s approach is to create vector illustrations, separate them into layered screens and then print them in his studio on Salt Spring Island.

Screen printing has been a big passion for Ben throughout his adult life; whether it was printing shirts and vinyl stickers for local Vancouver bands and artists, or working behind the dryer belt at an industrial screen printing shop. But on a field trip to Mexico City with the IDEA School of Design Grad 21 class, he found new inspiration in printmaking as some of the artists that the class met used linocut and screen printing in their design and exhibition work.

Ben’s print show at Slice of Life, “Keep Your Cool” runs from November 30th - December 5th, 2023, with an opening reception on Thursday, November 30th from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm.

Location:

Slice of Life Gallery
1636 Venables St, Vancouver

More information about the print show can be found on Slice of Life’s website.
