Nancy Wu shares personal stories and lessons learned on being a graphic designer + educator

Listen to me say “YOU KNOW” too many times on my first posted (second recorded 😉) podcast interview for @TheQuickiePodcast now on iTunes or Spotify. Lots of interesting personal stories and lessons learned.

I give a GLOWING and VERY TRUE personal account of Capilano's design program and school. (Correction to the intro: I originally wanted to illustrate comic strips for The Vancouver Sun and I'm the youngest GIRL in a family of 5.)

I also recorded a video interview with my friend Pete Bella at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) about my thoughts on being a graphic designer + design educator this summer on his podcast The DESIGNED Podcast.

Nancy Wu is an instructor at the IDEA School of Design at Capilano University. She is also senior graphic designer and art director at Nancy Wu Design. Nancy and I discussed the importance of design school choices as well as the importance and criticalness of internships and were internships fit into the design curriculum, and we've even found the time to talk about the importance of community in the design school.

The interview above went live July 2019 and his own website.

Mentioned during the podcast

In the cold type days of the 60s, 70s, and early 80s, getting type set was quite the expense. You were paying for the skills of a typesetter, as well as the materials used to print out galleys, not to mention the overhead for running a type shop!

Nancy and I have also found the time to talk about the path that print has taken in the design world as well as the importance of digital in today’s profession. I hope you enjoy this great conversation between Nancy and I, and I hope you find a lot of value and the things that we discuss in this episode of the designed podcast.
